10 Awesome Gimmicks Wasted On Terrible Wrestlers
7. The Boogeyman
Had the man behind the face paint been even a remotely competent professional wrestler, The Boogeyman could have been one hell of a sideshow gimmick in professional wrestling. The presentation was outstanding, the entrance was electric and the character was far more over than it had any right to be.
For the man behind the gimmick, wrestling was never really a strong suit. Marty Wright could eat worms with the best of them and completely immersed himself in the character, but his in-ring game was similar to that of a rookie backyard wrestler. Outside of traditional power holds and maneuvers, he floundered.
In fact, it was a lack of in-ring skill beyond the basics that robbed Boogeyman of a longer run with WWE. He very well could have been similar to Kane and Undertaker, two supernatural characters destined to remain over due to the uniqueness of their personas. Instead, he went the way of the dinosaurs.
He still pops up on WWE Network from time-to-time, making cameos on Swerved and The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness.
