10 Awesome Ideas That Were Cut From AEW

6. The Four Horsemen Reboot

In the summer of 2020, AEW dropped several hints towards a Four Horsemen reboot.

The promotion tends to hide easter eggs that tease future directions - Kenny Omega deftly foreshadowed his alliance with Don Callis for several months before the first Winter Is Coming - so there was definitely something to these small, fascinating details. Cody and FTR started throwing up the Four Horsemen sign in parallel; Dax Harwood very subtly swiped the four fingers across his chest when making a pin attempt, where Cody held the four fingers aloft when disclosing the fact that he was the fourth man Tony Khan called when scouting talent for what was provisionally titled 'World's Best Wrestling'.

In the meantime, online reports suggested that Arn Anderson was attempting to secure the trademark. These dots were not difficult to connect, even if, when this was all mentioned to FTR by PWI in December, they claimed the fan theory was a contrived retread.

What's harder to connect is FTR to Cody.

FTR played heels, and prior to their astonishing 2022, it was thought they'd never turn. Cody was adamant that he'd never turn, even when the fans really wanted him to turn. Perhaps his teasing rebooting the stable was a red herring, and AEW would pick up the dangling "F*ck The Revival" Being The Elite plot thread and book FTR to gain revenge on Cody as members of the Horsemen. Cody would thus be their Dusty.

Sadly, we'll never know.
