10 Awesome Ideas WWE Suddenly Stopped Doing
3. The Mae Young Classic
Here is yet another wrestling tournament that has fallen to dust, but unlike the Intercontinental Cup, fans were given a taste of this treat before the meal was torn away.
It's hard to believe there have only been two Mae Young Classic tournaments, as they played such a big role in the Women's Division. These bracketed contests brought plenty of fresh talent to the promotion, with the likes of Kairi Sane, Toni Storm, Rachel Gonzalez, and the current Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley making their WWE debuts in the event. Additionally, massive stars like Tessa Blanchard, Serena Deeb, and even referee Aubrey Edwards appeared in the tournament.
WWE seemingly struck gold with this one, as the tournament's legacy is one of great wrestling and progression for the company. Plus, it was an easily repeatable formula that could have boosted the Women's Division annually. So, why did it suddenly stop?
Sadly, there isn't an answer to that question. The third rendition of the tournament was, presumably, cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the event failed to return the following year and has yet to receive any updates since.
Considering that the Classic was such a success, why doesn't WWE run it anymore? Fans may never know.
