10 Awesome Indie Matches You MUST Watch On WWE Network
5. Drew McIntyre VS Roderick Strong (EVOLVE 38, 2015)
It might not be the prettiest of steel cages, and the competitors might be forced to make constant light of the faulty microphone, but when the match gets underway, boy do the New York crowd get a hell of a show!
This match was set during Drew's now legendary plough through the indie scene, and resulting path to WWE redemption. Though swapping a 'McIntyre' for a 'Galloway', he's the same core character, as his post-match promo testifies. That promo, incidentally, is almost as engaging as the match itself...
...during which Drew and Strong beat the absolute sh*t out of each other... pillar to post, high to low. The stamina is off the charts.
The end result is somewhat contentious, and warrants a few boos, but ultimately does nothing to detract from the overall brilliance of this match. It boils down to Strong being a ruthless opportunist, and McIntyre being too tough to take the hint and stay down, which is what we still love about the two characters right here in 2020.
It's a real everything-but-the-kitchen-sink affair.
