10 Awesome Wrestling Things To Be Thankful For Right Now
4. WWE ID is Shifting Developmental Back to Wrestling
It isn't just The Motor City Machine Guns who are making waves in WWE right now as a sign of a shift away from McMahon's hiring practices, but the creation of the WWE Independent Development program, too.
This is in its infancy, having only officially launched on October 29th, so the ramifications have yet to be fully realized. However, the point of WWE ID and the goals that are laid out are very clear, so it's easy to see where this is heading.
So much of developmental over the past few years has been focused on the NIL program, converting athletes from other sports into professional wrestlers. It's yielded a few wins like Oba Femi, but even hot prospects like Gable Steveson were complete duds and wastes of money. Are the Cavinder twins actually going to ever do anything, or just collect a paycheck while continuing to play basketball?
WWE ID shifts the focus back to indie wrestlers, which will be a much more stable recruitment setup. Not only will some of them bring name value with them, but a few years of experience to allow them to skip to being TV-ready much quicker, allowing NXT to replenish its roster and move talent up to Raw and SmackDown at a faster rate.
This could be what restores NXT back to its glory days of the black and gold era!
