10 Awesome Wrestling Title Reigns That Went Long

7. Randy Savage - WWE Intercontinental Title (414 Days)

Macho Man's impressive stretch with WWF's secondary gold is often only remembered for how it ended over anything else.

The beloved WrestleMania III war with Ricky Steamboat that culminated in title glory for 'The Dragon' was the final chapter of a stunning story that had ran for six months, and was itself a spinoff from Savage's previous feud over the title.

Winning the title with the help of nefarious referee Danny Davis in early 1986, Savage would move immediately into an angle with George 'The Animal' Steele, who's scary exterior belied a loveable heart that pined for Macho's valet Elizabeth.

Dragging heated scuffles out of the useless Steele, Randy would outwit the simple-but-sweet 'Animal' one time too often, causing nice guy Steamboat to interject on his behalf.

This in turn led Savage right into his next programme, crushing Steamboat's larynx with the ring-bell in a sublime bit of sh*tbag heel work.

The angle summed up his reign perfectly. Randy Savage was the dream combination of wrestler and entertainer, and used the run to prime himself for bigger things in the organisation and put the IC Title back on the agenda as a legitimate ticket-seller.

The sheer length of time he held the gold often gets forgotten due to a controversial run that also features in this list.
