10 Awesome WWE Gimmicks That Were Dropped Way Too Soon

5. The Heel Version Of R-Truth

R-Truth was such a boring, repetitive babyface for so long that when he turned heel in 2011 it was such a refreshing change for him. His turn took place after WrestleMania 27 because WWE must have realized they needed more top level heels, which they did. It wasn't some elaborate or long term build to a turn either. He just snapped on John Morrison after a loss. He was also drinking some water during a match, which apparently is some evil heel move in WWE's eyes. He even started smoking a cigarette at ringside. It was just so random, but it was such a fresh side of him. He even go to headline a PPV. That seemed like a stretch when they had him challenge John Cena for the WWE Title in the main event of Capitol Punishment. It also showed how thin WWE's roster was. They needed some heels for Cena to beat, so that's why they did the turn. Later in the year, he was in a featured role again along with The Miz and that story actually worked well with the duo known as The Awesome Truth. They were booked strongly as heels that interfered in matches. They were hated by the entire roster. They were even storyline fired briefly. The reason that duo ended is because Truth got suspended due to a Wellness Policy violation, so when he came back he was a face. That was a mistake. Who knows what would have happened if he didn't get suspended. The entire heel run only lasted about seven months for him. Maybe WWE felt he was better suited as a veteran babyface that puts over younger heels, but that's pretty boring.
