10 Awesome WWE Ideas That Didn't Last

8. Kofi Kingston - Main Event Star

Though Kofi Kingston's current tilt at the WWE title is predicated on the fact that he's been a solid, hard-working midcard hand for the better part of the past decade, there was actually another time when he was being positioned to be the major babyface of the company.

The year was 2009, and Kofi had been on the main roster for two years. He’d won the odd championship, but outside of exciting performances it didn’t seem as though he’d be pushed to the moon any time soon. Slowly but surely WWE began to strip away the lighter side of his character, removing the Jamaican influences and allowing Kofi to show his serious side.

All of which led to what should have been a career-making feud with Randy Orton. As Kofi hit Orton with a Boom Drop in the crowd at Madison Square Garden it did indeed seem as though a star was born. Orton would ultimately win the feud (clearly the wrong decision), but it was an incident a few months after that would end Kofi’s push.

Kofi seemed to make a slight mistake towards the end of a triple threat match, leading to Orton calling him ‘stupid’ in the ring and angrily hitting an RKO. Kofi’s push was dead, and midcard purgatory beckoned until his 2019 escape. Hopefully he has better luck this time around.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
