If you’re a true wrestling fan, you know Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon’s ladder match for the undisputed WWF Intercontinental Championship from WrestleMania X inside and out. It was groundbreaking for what ladder matches would later become in the promotion and helped catapult both Superstars up the card.

Shawn was once again set to battle over the Intercontinental strap at SummerSlam (1995) against Sycho Sid but the match got scrapped, with WWF instead choosing to go back to the well for a clash that enamoured fans so much the first time around.

Shawn and Razor’s second ladder match at SummerSlam ended up once again being the best match on the card, but was laid out completely different than their first. TV violence was becoming a prominent issue around this time, with Vince McMahon telling HBK and Ramon at the last minute they could not use the ladder in the match as a weapon under any circumstances, with both wrestlers protesting to no avail. But it actually ended up being for the better. Confined, the match they put on became much more about the emotional drama of scaling the ladder. They found loopholes around the rule Vince put on them too, still being able to jump off the ladder as well as being thrown off it.
