Chris Benoit and Booker T put on a series of hellacious matches in WCW in 1998 to determine the Number One Contender for the WCW Television Title. They were booked in a best-of-seven series, with each match being better than the last and every outcome being substantial in the compelling story they were telling.

Fans remember it fondly, but what gets overlooked is they did it again in WWE when the promotion booked them in another best-of-seven series over the United States title in the mid noughties. The Crippler and ‘The Five Time WCW Champion’ started off strong, putting on superb performances at Survivor Series, SmackDowns and Armageddon.

Unfortunately Booker T suffered a groin injury on a house show in the middle of the series and had to be replaced with Randy Orton in the remaining matches substituting for him. Thankfully Benoit and Orton wound up putting on great matches too on various SmackDowns.

Benoit and Booker T’s best-of-seven series in WCW will always be the classic fans harken back to, but there’s plenty of forgotten gems in their best-of-seven program in WWE.
