Chris Benoit’s 18 year odyssey to reach the apex in professional wrestling at WrestleMania XX in his triple threat with Triple H and Shawn Michaels was an emotional moment for Benoit and fans. The image of him making Triple H tap out to the Crippler Crossface to finally win the World title and the post-match moment of him hugging Eddie Guerrero in the middle of the ring was something fans would never forget witnessing.

What many fans did forget witnessing however was Benoit, HHH and HBK putting on another exceptional triple threat the very next month at Backlash. This time though Benoit walked in as Champion in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with the added nuance of the Canadian crowd jeering Shawn Michaels throughout with “You screwed Bret” chants. A particular highlight in the match was Michaels flying through the announce table after missing Benoit and HHH at ringside.

Benoit once again picked up the win, with Shawn doing the honours this time in an amazing finish referencing the Montreal Screwjob, when Benoit countered Sweet Chin Music and locked in the sharpshooter to make him tap out and retain.
