10 Awful WCW Gimmicks That Immediately Died

6. The Shockmaster

Former WWF star Fred Ottman, formerly Tugboat, moved south in 1993 - presumably under the impression that he would finally be given the opportunity to play a serious wrestling character after years of wearing a sailor's hat. Oh, how wrong he was.

Ottman debuted in WCW under the name "Shockmaster", wearing a silver Stormtrooper mask through which he could barely see. We know this because of the way he tumbled through the wall on night one, accidentally exposing his face in the process.

Though he gave us one of the all-time great botches in the process (and one that is destined to be replayed in wrestling comedy compilations until the end of time), the incident completely robbed him of any slim chance he had of getting over.

In the weeks that followed, WCW tried to salvage things with the introduction of a slightly-tweaked character, but it was simply too late. Nobody was ever going to take any variation of The Shockmaster seriously again.
