10 Awful Wrestling Matches That Stunk Up Arenas

1. Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs. Sgt. Slaughter - WWF In Your House: D-Generation X

Warrior Goldust II
WWE Network

The nascent D-Generation X were embroiled in a dispute with then-RAW commissioner Sgt. Slaughter in late 1997, which led to this horrendous "Boot Camp" match.

Slaughter was inactive at this point, for reasons which became painfully apparent almost immediately - as he laid into Helmsley in the corner, the mere act of hitting him with a riding crop was cause enough to slip ingloriously on his a*se.

The rest of his opening shine was conducted at a funereal pace. Slaughter, despite being the man principally in charge of upholding Federation rules, forgot the rules of his own stipulation match in attempting to pin Trips on the outside.

The match's worst crime is that it dragged on for nearly 20 never-ending minutes of plodding inaction. There was barely any sequencing on display; Helmsley and Slaughter instead hit one another with a procession of basic impact moves and outside spots, following which they sold for what seemed like aeons.

Both the sound technician and the timekeeper, evidently as bored as everybody else, didn't even wait for the referee's signal to put an end to the tedium. The DX theme starts up a millisecond before the three count.

Hey, at least Hunter learned when not to go long after all this.
