3. Big Show Vs. Akebono (WrestleMania 21)
As long as I may live, I will never unsee the image of Big Show in his sumo diaper. My lord, my eyes are burning just thinking about it...
Anyway, no disrespect to the sport of sumo wrestling, but it has no place in the showy, cartoony world of professional wrestling. WWE fans are interested in seeing two guys with a fast-paced workrate knock the hell out of each other for 15-20 minutes. They are certainly not interested in seeing two portly men push each other for a few seconds. Worse yet was that Show's opponent, Akebono, had retired from sumo competition four years prior after suffering a series of injuries.
So, with Akebono not being fighting fit, Show not exactly in the best shape of his career, and with sumo being a niche style of wrestling that pro-wrestling fans couldn't get behind, there was no interest for this match whatsoever. Thankfully, the bout ended in just over a minute, but unfortunately, it's a minute that none of us can ever get back.
