10 Best Active Wrestlers Who Will Never Be World Champion
8. Buddy Matthews
Buddy Matthews is a great in-ring competitor who has enjoyed a bit of success during his time in the squared circle. As part of the RAW brand, Matthews won the Cruiserweight Championship in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia, and won the RAW Tag Team Titles with Seth Rollins. He would later be split from Seth Rollins in what could have been a promising storyline, but never gained any momentum following this. He was later released from WWE in 2021 and made his way to AEW by debuting as a part of the House of Black faction.
For some reason though, to no fault of his own, Matthews always seems to be seen in a supporting role. His biggest role in WWE was as the partner/lackey to one Seth Rollins, and his debut in AEW saw Matthews immediately placed as a sidekick to Malakai Black. Matthews will surely be successful in his run with AEW, but unfortunately, sidekicks don’t tend to win World Titles.
Granted, the high flying Australian is only 33 years of age currently so there is definitely some time for him to develop and forge a path of his own. As long as he continues to play second fiddle to other stars though, everyone can kiss this World Title dream goodbye.
