7. Kenny Omega Vs. Jon Moxley - Full Gear
This match, as promised, was straight up insane.
A death match in all but name, it featured a barbed wire bat & broom, broken glass, an ice pick, a board covered in mouse traps, and what can only be described as a bed of barbed wire, with two of the best wrestlers in the company trying to murder each other with these items as their friends and a horrified audience watched on.
Whilst some dubbed the wince-inducing war "torture porn" it actually succeeded in a telling a fascinating story alongside the brutality. Fans were reminded of what Moxley was capable of when free of WWE's shackles and he was established as a star on the road to becoming world champion, whilst Omega's troubled character arc continued.
The missed Phoenix Splash on exposed boards which led to the finish was a thing of beauty in this unsanctioned spectacle, and Jim Ross summed it up perfectly when he described the whole thing as "a breath of fresh air for our business".
Well worth the $10,000 fine in my book.
