10 Best Big Man WWE Matches Ever

8. The Undertaker Vs. Festus - SmackDown 2008

What often makes big man matches so unsatisfying to watch is that they lack a sense of urgency. The two behemoths exchange a series of slow punches, then cinch on a headlock and maybe hit one big move before calling it a match. When Festus met The Undertaker on an episode of SmackDown, he brought it to The Dead Man in a way that few others ever have. Yes, Festus, the future Luke Gallows.

Since it was early in his WWE run, and because he was stuck with a limited gimmick, it seemed he had something to prove in the biggest match of his career at that point. Festus moved with the speed of someone half his size, and showed a high level of intensity in his relentless attacks on the veteran. To Taker’s credit, he sold like crazy for the younger star until it was time to put him away.

Festus was still protected in defeat too, because his character didn’t understand the concept of tapping out, so instead he passed out to Taker’s submission. It’s a bit strange that management gave up on the young wrestler so quickly after this showing, as he proved that he could deliver a great big man match against the most respected wrestler in the entire company.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
