10 Best Builds To WWE WrestleMania Main Events

3. Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs. The Rock (WrestleMania X-Seven)

Stone Cold had been injured for a full year, he came back to action in October 2000 and he was struggling to find his momentum until he valiantly won the Royal Rumble 2001. The following month at No Way Out, The Rock pinned Kurt Angle to win the WWF Championship so the match was on with the two biggest babyfaces in the company in Texas for the first stadium WrestleMania in almost a decade. The evil Vince McMahon would try to stir the pot by forcing Austin's wife Debra to be The Rock's manager but after Debra got ankle locked by Kurt during a match, Austin gave The Rock a stunner for not protecting his wife. Each week, the rivalry got more personal and it culminated in a tremendous sit down interview where Austin said "I need to beat you Rock, I need it more than anything that you can ever imagine, there can only ever be one World Wrestling Federation Champion and that will be Stone Cold Steve Austin, with all due respect" The two stars came across like nothing mattered in the world more than that WWF Championship and after an exciting and dramatic build, they'd go on to have one of the greatest WrestleMania matches ever where Austin would defeat The Rock, shockingly with the help of Vince McMahon.
