10 Best Champion Vs. Champion Matches In WWE History
4. Shawn Michaels (Intercontinental) Vs. Razor Ramon (Intercontinental)
This got five stars back when five stars was hard to get.
At WrestleMania X, the WWF put on their first high-profile ladder match to settle a dispute between Razor Ramon, the Intercontinental Champion, and Shawn Michaels, the, uhhh, Intercontinental Champion...
Right.
HBK had been stripped of the IC title after failing to defend it for thirty days (back when that rule was enforced - sometimes) and Ramon won the title in his absence. Michaels refused to acknowledge the title change, leading to the match at 'Mania to determine the true champion.
The fact that most of the audience had never seen this type of match before helped massively. The spots were innovative and exciting, particularly the amazing leap Michaels took off the top of a ladder. Ramon eventually won and was named undisputed champion.
The fact that Michaels was never officially recognised as Intercontinental Champion is what stops this match from being higher on our list, but the in-ring quality and storytelling from both men is undeniable. It still stands up today, despite decades of ridiculous high-spots in ladder matches.
If you haven't seen it, then you need to. If you've already seen it, then just watch it again.
