10 Best Champion Vs. Champion Matches In WWE History
3. John Cena (United States) Vs. Kevin Owens (NXT)
On the 18 May 2015 episode of Raw, Kevin Owens made his surprise debut on Raw, attacking United States champion, John Cena.
Owens, who was NXT Champion at the time, put himself on the map with this debut. He immediately put himself on the level of one of the biggest stars in WWE history and, at Elimination Chamber, he went one better.
The two champions had a match, Owens' first singles contest on the main roster. Both men put in an amazing showing, with Owens getting over his impressive moveset.
Considering who he was up against and his record against people like Bray Wyatt, Umaga, and The Nexus, most fans expected Owens to look good, but ultimately lose this match.
However, Owens not only beat Cena, but he beat him clean. A Pop-Up Powerbomb was enough to put Cena down for the three, giving Owens a huge first win in WWE.
The in-ring quality of this match combined with the good it did for Owens' career is what puts it so highly on this list. This was the perfect example of a top star putting over new talent and, in this case, the entire brand that Owens was representing.
