Admittedly, this one was not without its flaws.

Daniel Bryan was hand-picked by WWE Champion, John Cena, to be his SummerSlam opponent. After years of mid-card toil, comedy tag teams, and 18-second losses, fans were ready to see D-Bry get his chance to shine in the main event.

Bryan and Cena faced off in the same building they stood side-by-side in against The Nexus three years earlier. As you can imagine, it was a hell of a match, building to the crescendo of Bryan clattering Cena with a Running Knee to capture the WWE Championship for the first time in his career.

And then The Viper arrived.

Randy Orton cut Bryan's celebrations short when Special Guest Referee Triple H sneak-attacked the new champ, allowing Randy to cash-in Money in the Bank and end Bryan's title reign mere minutes after it had begun.

Whilst fans were not thrilled to see Daniel Bryan lose the title so quickly, they were intrigued to see that their man was now involved in a major feud. Also, from a totally objective standpoint, this was fantastic storytelling.

SummerSlam 2013 ended with a rollercoaster of emotions that (eventually) paid off big time at WrestleMania XXX.
