10 Best Ever WrestleMania Rematches At Backlash

5. Trish Stratus Vs Mickie James (2006)

You’ll forgive this writer if he swoons for a minute at Mickie James the crazed stalker.

Mickie debuted in WWE as Trish Stratus’ biggest fan, a Fatal Attraction/Single White Female angle that saw James slowly evolve from a dedicated fan to being in love with Trish. When Stratus rejected James’ advances, Mickie turned on her to set up their WrestleMania 22 match for the WWF Women’s Championship.

James would go on to win the title in what was probably the best women’s Mania match to that point. Despite being a crazed heel, Mickie was wildly cheered by the fans, including when she groped Trish mid-match in a spot that WWE has since scrubbed from its replays.

The two would continue their feud after Mania and have a rematch for the women’s title at Backlash, with Stratus winning by DQ. They’d wrap up the feud in June 2006 with James retaining the title again.

While not as interesting of a runback, this was one of only two women’s Mania matches to get the rematch treatment at Backlash, though we’ll get our third this year with Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey.
