Every year, someone stepped forward to take on The Undertaker on his annual return to the promotion. Recent years had seen a series of classic matches with HBK, HHH and then CM Punk. It seemed like the streak would never be broken and when Lesnar threw his cap into the ring it genuinely felt like Taker would finally get revenge on The Beast that destroyed him in 2002. With hindsight, some of the signs were there before. Taker, for the first time and with the greatest respect, looked old. Also, when he came out a set a coffin with Lesnars name on it on fire, it felt too confident. The match, unfortunately, didnt go to plan. Yes, it was a disappointment but Taker suffered a concussion early on and fought on through. Lesnar, to his credit, helped The Deadman through it so there was at the very least a match to watch. When Lesnar popped Taker up for the third F-5 it felt like the match was nearing the end. A quick kick-out and probably a Hells Gate and everyone could move on to the next match. Only, Taker didnt kick out and 75,000 fell silent. Heyman jumped into the ring, shocked. Lesnar laughed incredulously. As Brock moved up the ramp though, he gave a wink of thanks to The Undertaker for giving him the biggest rub of his career. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HF69HdV5LbI Conspiracy theories and blogging debates will go on for years about this match but, although the match wasnt great because of Takers legitimate injury, it is still a bout that people will never forget.
