10 Best Father & Son Team-Ups In Wrestling
6. Fritz Von Erich And His Sons
Not only was Fritz Von Erich a legendary wrestler and promoter, he also had five sons that followed him into the wrestling business for his World Class Championship Wrestling promotion and beyond.
Unfortunately, the Von Erich tale is one of wrestling's greatest tragedies. Four of those five sons would die way before their time, while a sixth son - Fritz's first-born, Jack - drowned in a puddle at the age of just six years of age.
When looking at the great family names of the wrestling business, the Von Erich name is one that stands as one of the most notable in the history of the industry. Away from Fritz's famed in-ring career, WCCW had a spell of being one of the hottest promotions on the planet - and key to so much of that were the uber-babyface Von Erich boys who had the Sportatorium crowd losing their minds on a nightly basis.
During WCCW's run, Fritz would get to fight alongside four of his sons, having multi-man bouts teaming with Kevin, Kerry, David and Mike Von Erich before the family patriarch formally hung up his boots in 1982.
Sadly, two years after Fritz's own wrestling days came to a close, David passed away from an intestinal issue at the age of 25. Further tragedy followed in 1987, when Mike overdosed at age 23, which in turn was followed in 1991 by the suicide of the youngest Von Erich son, Mike, at just 21 years of age. 1993 then saw Kerry Von Erich take his own life - which tragically left Kevin Von Erich as the sole remaining member of these Von Erich siblings.
