10 Best Gimmick Changes in Wrestling History

9. The Golden Age of Toni Storm

The most recent change on this list, Toni Storm’s work from August 2023 onwards has been some of her best. Before taking on her ‘Timeless’ persona, Storm was best known for her connection to glam metal, spending the majority of her career with a ‘rock star’ style. After a four-year stint in WWE, she found her way to AEW in 2022 and, one year later, formed The Outcasts with Saraya and Ruby Soho.

This group benefitted each member individually, but arguably none more so than Storm herself. Whilst aligned with Soho & Saraya, she captured her second AEW Women’s Championship, a feat that was record-breaking at the time. However, after losing her title to Hikaru Shida in August 2023, Storm began to adopt a different role. She started to grow more paranoid and acted like a Hollywood starlet from the Golden Age. Since then, her character has only become more popular and finds her way onto every episode of AEW programming, with huge fan demand.

Her work on television has grown over the past few months, becoming more and more ridiculous, in the best possible way. Demanding close-ups, having the power to be filmed solely in black-and-white and gaining a super-fan in the form of Mariah May, Toni Storm has firmly cemented herself as the main character in the AEW Women’s division over the past six months. Also, this character gave her the platform to pick up her record-equalling third AEW Women’s Championship, which is a testament to her fantastic work as ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm.
