10 Best Gimmick WrestleMania Matches

2. Shawn Michaels Vs. Razor Ramon (Ladder Match) - WrestleMania X

WrestleMania's well-documented history with Ladder matches began at the 10th-annual event when HBK himself went one-on-one with Razor Ramon for the 'undisputed' Intercontinental Championship. And though many later 'Mania Ladder matches would rely heavily on the stunts, this one's strengths lie in how sparing it was.

Every time one superstar picked up the ladder, you could feel the crowd come to life with excitement or intrigue (or both) while they spent the rest of the match thoroughly enthralled in the action.

The truth is that Michaels and Ramon spent most of this contest wrestling a classic. Again, that doesn't mean there wasn't an air of excitement surrounding the special gimmick (because there was), but it never overshadowed the quality of the action. In fact, it benefited it, because some of the feats they pulled off - specifically Michaels' splash off the ladder - will live on in WrestleMania history forever.

It's hard to imagine where the Ladder Match concept would be without this one. It wasn't the first in professional wrestling history - nor was it the first to take place in a WWE ring - but it was the first to air on live WWE programming, and the sheer quality of the match itself put the concept on the map.

A classic for the ages.
