10 Best Image Changes In ECW History
8. Doink The Clown
For older wrestling fans, the horror of babyface Doink will forever be a blight on WWF/WWE history. Matt Osborne had been tearing it up as a heel version of the clown gimmick, scaring everybody with his nightmarish appearance and foreboding aura. That all changed when Osborne was released by the company.
Others would play the Doink character, yet it would never have the same appeal after turning face. As Doink continued to tank in the WWF, Osborne moved to ECW and worked a fresh take on the persona. Backed by Shane Douglas in storyline, Osborne claimed he had never wanted to play the gimmick in the first place.
Hinting that he had developed split personality disorder, the wrestler called himself 'Borne Again'. Still partially wearing the Doink makeup, Osborne would also embarrass opponents by dressing them up in clown paraphernalia after matches.
Just like his main stint as Doink, the Borne Again character was relatively short-lived. Regardless, it was a superb idea to turn the gimmick upside down and present Osborne with a harder edge.
