http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_gE0n_7flw The second wrestler on this list immortalised by a statue in Ireland. If that wasnt enough, hes also the reason the Irish whip was given its name. Born in Cork, OMahony was a former NWA World Heavyweight champion in the 1930s. Despite promoter Billy Sandow publicly questioning his abilities in the ring, the legacy of Danno is something which few Irish wrestlers will ever achieve. From old school screw jobs, to title unifications, to walk outs, the Irish brawler was one of the most talked about wrestlers of the era. On his return to Ireland, thousands of fans lined the streets to welcome him home, now able to view his abilities on home soil. Dying from a car accident at the young age of 38, OMahonys contributions will forever be remembered each time a wrestler is flung towards the ropes.
As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
