Usually, winning the NXT Championship signifies a prolonged stay in WWE's developmental territory, regardless of experience or expertise, as seen in the cases of accomplished wrestlers such as Neville, Finn Bálor, Samoa Joe, and current champ Shinsuke Nakamura.
However, this was not the case for Mr. Owens, who made his unannounced main roster debut while still holding the title - and went after the biggest name in the company to boot. On May 18, 2015, KO answered John Cena's US Championship open challenge, but beat down his opponent before the bell and stomped upon the title belt (while hoisting his own championship aloft).
