7. Defeating John Cena
Owens and Cena clashed shortly after, at the Elimination Chamber Network special in Corpus Christi, Texas. Most were expecting KO to push the franchise name close, showcasing his ability on a grand stage before ultimately losing. Instead, Owens did the unthinkable; he actually won.
The newcomer pinned Cena after a second Pop-Up Powerbomb, in a match widely regarded as one of the best of the year. The pair displayed undeniable chemistry (despite very different backgrounds in the business), and Owens was portrayed as a very tough, resilient competitor, kicking out of the Attitude Adjustment at one stage.
KO also used the match to show off his trash-talking ability - a facet of his character well known to all of us today - by shamelessly mocking Cena's signature "you can't see me" taunt. Unfortunately, the match was contested under a non-title stipulation, meaning that Owens would have to wait for his first main roster title reign.
