10 Best Kurt Angle Matches Since He Left WWE
10. Kurt Angle Vs. Sting - Bound For Glory 2007
Bound For Glory 2007 may be best remembered for the infamous Reverse Battle Royal, which still feels like a bad nightmare, but perhaps it should be recalled for an impressive accomplishment that Kurt Angle pulled off that night: carrying Sting to a really good match.
At the time, most fans weren’t looking forward to Sting vs. Angle in TNA's biggest show of the year. They were hoping for younger guys like Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles to close out the night, and show that a new era was underway. While Angle was still recognized as a top worker, Sting was largely coasting along at that point.
He was fine, putting on decent but largely forgettable matches. Leave it to the Olympic Gold Medalist to get the most anyone could get out of The Icon.
Sting vs. Angle is one of the few TNA matches that have a big fight feel to it. This is due to the large crowd, their enthusiastic reaction and the pacing of the match. The two longtime pros did cut a few corners with interference by Kevin Nash and Karen Angle, but it was largely a submission based, technical match that kept building to a higher level. The finish was classic TNA nonsense, but overall Sting and Angle put on a really entertaining display.
The two continued to battle in pay-per-views over the next couple of years to diminishing returns, but this one remains their best, and perhaps was the last highly watchable match of Sting’s career.
