10 Best Matches From WWE ECW

1. Kurt Angle Vs. Rob Van Dam (27 June 2006)

RVD Kurt Ange

Having squared off several times in the past - most notably during the Invasion storyline of 2001 - Angle and RVD were undoubtedly the most tenured and skilled performers on the revamped ECW roster. As such, their tussle on the June 27th episode of ECW was a hugely anticipated match-up.

Just days ahead of his scheduled WWE Title defence at Vengeance, RVD would have to take on the Olympian with Edge and Lita watching from the crowd. Worse still, if Van Dam lost, the match at Vengeance would become a three way, making the main event all the more intriguing.

Angle's suplex heavy style blended well with RVD's high octane assault and kick-heavy arsenal, and the two men waged war in a back and forth affair. With big high spots, stiff shots and general disregard for heir well-being showed that neither man was holding back.

Both RVD and Angle seemed intent on creating a match that was as intense and realistic as possible. By the time the final bell had tolled, that is exactly what they had achieved.

RVD walked away the victor, but not before taking a spear for his troubles, courtesy of a guardrail-hipping Edge.
