10 Best Matches From WWE NXT Takeover History
1. Bayley Vs. Sasha Banks - NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn
This match. Where to even begin?
Going into NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, the largest crowd NXT had ever performed in front of was a crowd of 5,000 or so people at the prior WrestleMania in San Jose. In that time, NXT developed such high level storytelling that they managed to shatter their previous attendance record, selling out the 15,000 plus seat Barclay's Center to the surprise of management and everyone else involved. For the talent on the card, TakeOver: Brooklyn was set to be the biggest show of their lives.
The match itself can't be done justice with words. Go and watch it: It's a master class in psychology. The storytelling in the match was excellent, with Sasha brutally working on Bayley's already injured hand the entire match. After slamming it in between the steel stairs, Bayley was in rough shape. As she reached for the ropes to try to cause a break in Sasha's submission hold the Banks Statement, Sasha used her free leg to savagely stomp on Bayley's injured hand.
After Bayley managed to prop Sasha onto the top rope, she delivered a reverse hurricanrana that is still hard to watch, as Sasha nearly landed on her neck. Luckily she popped back up right after, allowing Bayley to Bayley-to-Belly suplex her and win the NXT Women's Championship, capping off a two year quest for the title. One of the greatest matches I've ever witnessed, full stop, it's the perfect microcosm of everything great that professional wrestling can be.
