10 Best Modern WWE Rivalries
5. AJ Styles Vs. The Undertaker
The changes to WWE after being locked down were significant, and one of the biggest impacts was the scope of Wrestlemania. Many knew that a lack of audience members could spell some weirdness for the event, but an aspect that pleased everyone was the Boneyard match between AJ Styles and The Undertaker. Something that wouldn't have happened had it not been the only option.
This is such an important feud because it's very likely to be Taker's last and AJ was the perfect choice for Mark Callaway to end his career on. The talented performer brought out an outstanding performance against The Deadman and even coloured more of his character around how significant an impact the veteran had on him.
An important essence for a feud is that it bares an effect on the performers even when the other isn't there. AJ made this incredibly evident when even the sight of The Undertakers poster he encountered during the MITB match caused his mind to slip. Moments like that prove how feuds can have long term effects that develop the characters.
Ultimately this fantastic match and the rivalry that surrounded it felt so natural despite it's over the top presentation. Even though there were limited interaction between the two before and after, the feud felt epic and vital. It was perfect for both performers.
