10 Best Moments In Starrcade History
6. Piper Vs. Hogan (1996)
Another Starrcade main event which we're obliged to preface with the caveat that it wasn't exactly a stellar in-ring exhibition - but, really, few were expecting one.
Neither man was particularly known for his show-stealing ring-work, for one thing, and then there was the fact that Piper had only just joined the company, after occupying a non-wrestling role in WWE earlier in the year.
It was a showdown of two icons though; we knew this because much of the build-up centered on who was a bigger coup for WCW (which is probably exactly the sort of thing men in their 40s ought to argue over).
By beating Hogan (albeit not for the belt), Piper was the first to put a few dents in the nWo's master-plan - and for those who loathed them, it was one of the storyline's great early moments.
