In 1997, Shawn Michaels and Triple H formed D-Generation X. The faction seemed to be a reaction to the success of the nWo over in WCW, but DX had more of a comedic vibe to it. Often, Chyna could be seen in segments playing a more serious character, which contrasted well with the child-like humour favoured by her stablemates.

For a brief period, 'Ravishing' Rick Rude was also part of the set-up, but Chyna was much more prominent in her bodyguard role. It wasn't uncommon to see the woman hit opponents with a crucial low blow, or stand there looking mean whilst holding the titles belonging to Michaels and Triple H.

Throughout that early period for D-Generation X, Chyna was a vital component. It must have been a fun time for her. Not only was she in a real-life romantic relationship with Triple H, but she also got to work with her boyfriend on screen, usually as a focal point of the entire show.

Chyna's alignment with Triple H would last up until 1999, which is when her career really started to blossom from an in-ring perspective.
