10 Best Money In The Bank Cash-Ins Ever
5. Rob Van Dam
Rob Van Dam was only the second man to claim the Money in the Bank briefcase, but even so, there was a precedent established - the holder of the contract was best served keeping it with him until the exact right time, then cashing it in on a vulnerable champion to get an easy title win.
Leave it to RVD to put his own spin on things. After claiming the briefcase at WrestleMania 22, Van Dam held onto it for dear life, but once One Night Stand 2006 was announced - the second annual PPV tribute to the beloved ECW organization - Van Dam knew he had an opportunity to make history in an extreme way. He gave WWE Champion John Cena a heads up, telling him in May of 2006 that at the June 11 show, he would challenge him for the WWE Title.
The stakes got even higher when, the following week, it was announced that Paul Heyman was drafting RVD to be the centerpiece of WWE's third brand, a resurrected ECW. Not only would John Cena be defending the WWE Championship for his own sake, but he'd be trying to keep it from being taken to what amounted to a rival organization.
At One Night Stand, Cena was nearly booed out of the Hammerstein Ballroom, but it didn't faze him. Still, the chaos of the bout was a bit too much for the champ, and after two referee bumps and a run-in from Edge, Cena was laid out. Van Dam hit him with a Five Star Frog Splash, then Heyman made the count himself to finally crown RVD a world champion.
