10 Best Money In The Bank Cash-Ins Ever

4. Edge (First)

Prior to WrestleMania 21, Chris Jericho proposed an interesting idea that he felt would shake up not just the event, but the WWE title scene as a whole. Six men would compete in a ladder match, with the prize being a contract for a WWE Championship bout - a contract that could be cashed in at absolutely any time within a year. Given the advantage the contract holder would have, winning the match would be tantamount to money in the bank - a guaranteed title win.

Jericho, Chris Benoit, Christian, Shelton Benjamin, Edge, and Kane - all Raw superstars - competed in the match to see who would claim this coveted prize. After an incredible bout, it was rising heel Edge who came away with the briefcase that contained the contract.

For months, Edge held onto his briefcase, always reminding fans that no matter what happened to him, he had a guaranteed shot at the World Heavyweight Championship (when World Heavyweight Champ Batista and WWE Champion John Cena switched shows, Edge's contract was applied to Raw's WWE Title). Still, he bided his time, never using the contract without being absolutely sure.

At New Year's Revolution 2006, 280 days after he won the briefcase (a record that still stands), Edge saw his opportunity. Even though he lost to Intercontinental Champion Ric Flair by disqualification earlier in the show, WWE Champion John Cena was a bloodied husk following the main event. He had successfully defended the title in an Elimination Chamber match, outlasting Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, Kane, Carlito, and Chris Masters.

Cena had beaten five men, but he was no match for a relatively fresh Edge. After Vince McMahon himself announced the cash-in, Edge ran to the ring and Speared John Cena twice to become WWE Champion.
