10 Best Monster Henchman In Wrestling
7. Wardlow
A recent AEW example of the monster henchmen trope occurred when Wardlow acted as Maxwell Jacob Friedman's bodyguard for hire. Wardlow was relatively unknown to mainstream wrestling fans when he became MJF's enforcer during his feud against Cody Rhodes in 2019. However, the charismatic big man soon won over the AEW audience as the subjugated monster of Friedman.
MJF and War Dog would later form part of the Pinnacle, with the pair making enemies of almost every wrestler on the AEW roster. Over the course of two-and-a-half years, the tension brewed between the pair as the leader of the Pinnacle continued to demean his enforcer at every opportunity.
When Wardlow's inevitable face turn came during Max's bloody battle with CM Punk at Revolution 2022, the crowd was more than ready to get behind 'Mr. Mayhem.' After finally getting his comeuppance on his former boss, Wardlow proceeded to defeat Scorpio Sky for the TNT Championship.
The Wardlow and MJF combination is a modern prototype of how to do the monster henchmen gimmick correctly, which has set up the former for great success in the promotion.
