10 Best NJPW Matches Of 2020 (So Far)
8. Hirooki Goto Vs. Shingo Takagi - New Beginning In Sapporo Day 1
Goto is always better than you think he is. This rematch with Shingo from the G1 doesn’t quite hit the peak of their match of the night from August but these men have such incredible chemistry, I could watch them wrestle each other four times a year until both men retire.
Shingo Takagi was the best wrestler of 2019, delivering brilliant matches throughout the Best of the Super Juniors and the G1 against opponents like Taiji Ishimori, Tetsuya Naito, Tomohiro Ishii and SHO among others. After Goto's victory for the Openweight title at Wrestle Kingdom over KENTA, Takagi challenged Goto for the title as he had defeated him in the G1 Climax in the aforementioned match of the night. Their rematch was slightly more methodical, taking advantage of both men's stamina and ability to carry a show, but truly crossed over into greatness in its closing stages.
Both men battered the hell out of each other and Goto put over Shingo as strong as he possibly could, leading into his first reign as Openweight champion. The inevitable third match they have is going to redefine what people believe Goto’s capable of in his current state, I have nothing but complete faith in that.
