Kushida has had a terrific year holding down the top spot in New Japan's junior division, which started with an IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship victory over Kenny Omega. He then went on to essentially run the table against the other juniors, defeating BOSJ winner Will Ospreay and winning the Super-J Cup while still champion. His loss to Bushi was quickly made up for in their rematch less than two months later.

While Ospreay and Ricochet made the most noise in the junior division this year, Kushida has been quietly grinding out victories to cement himself as the Ace of the division. A clash with the returning Kamaitachi is set for WK11 so we shall see if he can remain atop the division going into 2017.
