10 Best Non-WWE Wrestlers Of 2016 (So Far)
9. Kento Miyahara
Only days into the new year, All Japan Pro Wrestling's Kento Miyahara scored a major win when he pinned Suwama in a six-man tag-team match.
The victory was two-fold as not only was it a measure of revenge against the man who'd turned on him after the pair won the World's Strongest Tag Determination League, but it was a pinfall over the reigning Triple Crown Champion (and the most dominant once since the NOAH exodus). Miyahara had earned a title shot.
Unfortunately, the story didn't come full circle - Suwama ruptured his Achilles tendon, forcing him to give up the Triple Crown. Miyahara defeated Zeus in a match for the vacant title, becoming the youngest Triple Crown Champion in history, but the victory was robbed of some of its drama.
Still, All Japan's ace has continued to deliver as the year has gone on. He made his first successful title defense against Takao Omori, and while a loss to Daisuke Sekimoto kept him out of the finals of the annual Champion Carnival tournament, he successfully defended his belt against eventual winner Sekimoto.
His next title defense came against Kengo Mashimo, whom he defeated. After the match, Miyahara continued his path to becoming All Japan's next legend, offering Jun Akiyama a title shot.
