10 Best nWo Moments

7. The Four Horsemen Parody

nWo Arn Anderson
WWE Network

Wrestling legend Arn Anderson struggled with a bad neck injury, and realized it was never going to get better. His career was over. In one of Nitro’s most emotional moments, Double A came to the ring with the Four Horsemen and announced his retirement. The next week, the nWo completely made a mockery of it, and created a spectacle that was entertaining, but downright mean.

X-Pac came out as Ric Flair, and was surprisingly good in the role. Buff Bagwell was Curt Hennig, and a silent Konnan played Mongo. But what made the segment so controversial, and so memorable, was Kevin Nash’s impression of Arn. He came out stumbling, holding his four fingers in the air, with a giant pillow under his shirt for a gut, and holding a styrofoam cooler in his arm.

Nash was really over the top in a comical way, but his repeated references to beer went a bit too far, as Arn had struggled with alcoholism earlier in his life, and had no idea this was going to go down.

If the segment was to be aired at all, it certainly could have been handled a lot better. But in the end, the skit helped to perfectly highlight the rebellious attitude of the nWo, and delivered a warning that nothing about the business was sacred.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
