Perhaps not the wittiest, smartest, or most emphatic line of the night, but Michael Cole’s summary of the post-main event proceedings was a fine note on which to tie up the evening’s events. Plus, it was a nice dog-based pun, which means its guaranteed to be a hit in my book.

After Reigns had charged down the entrance ramp and unleashed a huge Spear on Rusev, Cole declared that the big dog had indeed marked his territory in taking out the US champ.

I also wanted to highlight this comment as it gives us a chance to discuss this latest use of Reigns in a mid-card role, as opposed to the top-of-the-card berth he previously held.

For me, it’s the perfect course of action, allowing him to hone his craft and actually develop a character, whilst saving him from the over-exposure that the title picture subjected him to. He’s by no means the finished article, but the Reigns that we’ve seen since his return from suspension is a whole lot better than the version we’d seen in the months—even years—prior.
