6. Disco Inferno - Saturday Night Fever

Stardust Mr. Sinister
WWE

Bearing more than a passing resemblance to a young John Travolta, Glenn Gilbertti was saddled with the potentially career-killing gimmick of Disco Inferno upon debuting for WCW - he puffed his hair up, wore a white suit, and danced constantly. He was proud to be a throwback to the 1970s, and he immediately got noticed as an obnoxious heel. Before long, he was turned babyface, but nothing about the Disco Inferno gimmick or outfit was changed.

To Gilbertti's credit, he played the Disco Inferno character perfectly, winning a "Best Gimmick" award in 1995 from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Not only was he a talented wrestler, but face or heel, he managed to be charmingly unlikable throughout a run that included TV and Cruiserweight Championship reigns. Disco Inferno was a part of WCW until the organization's demise, turning a one-note joke into six years of employment.
