10 Best Roman Reigns WWE Matches
5. Vs. Dean Ambrose Vs. Seth Rollins - Battleground 2016
The first ever Triple Threat Match featuring the former members of The Shield was a huge deal that should've been saved for a big pay-per-view, possibly at WrestleMania. However, Roman Reigns suffered an ill-timed wellness policy violation in the summer of 2016. That was a likely contributor for why this long awaited match occurred on a non-big 4 show.
Fresh off of his suspension, this was one of the rare matches in which Roman was clearly booked as the unambiguous heel. He was booed by the fans and not in an ironic way that's inappropriate to the action being depicted in and around the ring. Even when rewatching the bout on the WWE Network, this is one of the few Reigns' matches that doesn't sound like the anti-Roman chants were noticeably tampered with in post-production.
To Roman's credit, he worked his tail off and sold for his former faction brethren, even taking one of those Shield-style assisted powerbombs through an announce table. The ending showcased a super hot sequence of traded finishers, ending with Dean hitting Roman with a Dirty Deeds for the win. These three proved that a Shield showdown can be an insanely good match. Hopefully there's another in-ring meetup in their future.
