10 Best Roman Reigns WWE Matches
4. Vs. Brock Lesnar - WrestleMania 31
This WrestleMania main event began as a one-on-one contest between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Roman Reigns, so that's how it's titled here. Of course, Seth Rollins dramatically changed all of that in the final few minutes of action, but we'll get to him in a moment.
Coming into this night, Brock Lesnar was one year removed from ending The Undertaker's Streak and about six months out of unmercifully destroying John Cena for the title he carried into Levi's Stadium. The Beast Incarnate brought that intensity to Roman Reigns, suplex after suplex after suplex. For some context, this was the match that birthed the 'Suplex City' catchphrase thanks to an off the cuff Brock line made during the action.
The dominance of Brock made Roman's late match flurry all the more exciting. After three Superman Punches, two Spears, and a subsequent pinfall, the pro-Lesnar portion of the crowd loudly erupted when he kicked out of what seemed like a definite Roman victory. An F5 was given right after this, which set up Seth Rollins' historic mid-match Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in.
Rollins ultimately pinned his former Shield buddy to win what was the only World Title in WWE at that time. The creative finish of this excellent match felt like a clear signal that the Roman experiment as the one to get over above all else was ready to cool off for a bit. A pause in his push never really happened, but it's fun to point out past naivetés.
