Taking place in a definite lull-period of the Ruthless Aggression Era, No Way Out 2006 was a SmackDown exclusive event which far-surpassed all expectations.

Kicking off the show was the terrific Gregory Helms, as he moved away from his Hurricane persona and moved more into a wrestling-focused heel, facing off against eight other opponents in a Cruiserweight Open.

This match wasn’t given much time for the amount of stars, and the levels of talent they all possessed, but it definitely delivered.

Benoit successfully defended his US Championship against Booker T, as they reignited their ‘best of’ feud which originally took place in WCW. While many of the matches were same, this was a strong showing, with Benoit getting the W in the eighteenth minute with a Crippler Crossface.

In the penultimate match, Orton and Rey Mysterio had a barn burner for the number one contendership. While the angle going into the match exploited Eddie Guerrero’s passing in late November in the epitome of tasteless, the in-ring action was hard to beat.

However, it was beaten, when Kurt Angle and Undertaker had a match for the ages. Angle relying on his size, speed and technical ability against Undertaker’s power and physical peak. Words cannot do this match justice, so if you’ve not seen this, remedy that immediately.
