10 Best Times Wrestlers Kept Kayfabe Outside Of Wrestling
6. Jon Moxley - AEW Unrestricted Podcast
You want to know what commitment to kayfabe looks like?
Wearing a goddamn eye patch whenever you're in the public eye (yes, I know) for weeks on end in order to sell a fake injured eye-ball... that's what it looks like.
Jon Moxley had been half 'blinded' by AEW Champion Chris Jericho's Inner Circle in the lead up to their titanic clash at Revolution in February 2020 and therefore was forced to wear an eye/head bandage in order to protect the 'injury'.
This eventually evolved into an eye patch and Moxley became the most over pirate in wrestling history. Sorry, Paul Burchill.
Yet, Moxley's patch wearing didn't end inside of an AEW ring. Fully embracing the idea that Jericho could be watching at any time, Mox kept the patch on throughout his entire AEW Unrestricted Podcast interview and nobody batted an eyelid. Well, you probably couldn't tell if... never mind.
Moxley eventually revealed the whole thing had been a massive trick and stripped the patch (along with Jericho's perceived advantage) away en route to winning the gold at Revolution.
This piece of subtle plotting helped prove that Moxley wasn't just a brainless brawler, he was just as calculated as even the most wily of veterans within the company.
