10 Best Traditional WWE Survivor Series Matches Ever
9. Team Flair (Ric Flair, The Mountie, Ted DiBiase & The Warlord) vs Team Piper (Roddy Piper, Bret Hart, Virgil & British Bulldog) - Survivor Series 1991
This match should really be higher, especially considering the quality of the men involved. Although Virgil stands out as perhaps a lesser member of the face squad, his teammates were the more-than-formidable trio of Bret Hart, Davey Boy Smith, and Hot Rod himself. The heels lined up in similarly impressive fashion, boasting Ted Dibiase, The Mountie, and Ric Flair (oh, and The Warlord). In fairness to both Virgil and Warlord, they played their roles very well in this match, the former benefitting from a hot crowd reaction to his recent split from the Million Dollar Man, the latter acting as a heavy to the cowardly Flair. Surely this match should therefore be higher on the list, filled as it is with fantastic action, booking, and in-ring pedigree. Unfortunately, its quality is diminished greatly by its incredibly dubious ending sequence. The match inevitably broke down into an in-ring brawl, which Flair unintentionally avoided by flopping groggily to the outside - thereby winning the match as the referee disqualified everybody remaining in the ring. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcmkdm_wwf-survivor-series-1991-part-1_sport The match up until this point had been very well paced and dramatic, seemingly building to a hot conclusion. Unfortunately the booking team decided to go with a non-finish to protect everybody involved, a cop-out which perhaps seems more likely to take place in the modern day WWE. Either way, it was a match which deserved a far better ending than it ultimately had.
